Location and Agent EDFs
Automate Package Manager uses agent and location EDFs to store agent status and to allow individual control over automated package management. By default, all these settings are managed in the main Automate package Manager tool, but you can use the EDFs to validate the status of each agent and in a pinch make quick changes to a single agent quickly.
Agent EDFs:
Agent EDFs control how each of the master groups interacts with the needs of the agent. You will also find result fields that hold data returned by the agent as it progresses through enabled events.
Example Usage Scenario:
You might select the APM - Enable Agent check box and save the EDF setting, this will have an effect on the agent. The agent will now qualify to join the Automate Package Manager Master Group. Once in this group it will automatically qualify for package scanning. This process retrieves any existing packages installed on agents. If package managers are missing it will attempt to install them. (not applicable with Linux). This in turn will cause the Package Manager and Package Manager Version EDFs to be populated with the results of the first scan. Once package managers are verified the agent will qualify to receive any policies or sources defined for it. You can use the main interface to modify policy and source assignments or you can place the names of the source policy and install/update policies manually into the EDFs supplied for the agent. You can also run the agent without a policy or source set. If Auto Updates and Auto Installs remain unchecked the agent will operate in scan only mode.
Example Usage Scenario: You enable a client or a location full of Windows desktops for auto updates, but you are instructed to exclude the CEO of the client in questions PC from management. You would use the main tool to enable the client or location, then opening the agent console for the CEO’s computer and selecting to uncheck APM- Enable Agent and check APM – Exclude Agent. This would disable the agent from any automation and then would exclude agent so that any onboarding you may do for client will not reenable the disabled agent.
EDFs also include: Last Scan date, Last Install Date, Last Update Date, Current updates needed count.
Location EDFs:
Location EDFs control Onboarding only. As new agents join configured locations, they will qualify for a policy. Once the policy is applied, the agent will qualify for Scanning which starts the process of validations and current package scans as described under Agent EDFs.
Web Portal Access To EDFs
You can access and manage all the agent EDFs from the ConnectWise Automate Tech Web Portal. This makes validating installs and updates, enabling or disabling agents, changing update policies, and managing sources from anywhere a breeze.
