Bad or corrupt catalog

Post by Cubert »

Wbadmin delete catalog

Deletes the backup catalog on the local computer. Use this subcommand only if the backup catalog on this computer is corrupted and you have no backups stored at another location that you can use to restore the catalog.

This subcommand applies only to Windows Server 2008. By running the command wbadmin delete catalog and clearing the event logs you will remove all previous information relating to out of date backups. when the next backup runs if there are already backups on that destination device (such as USB hard drive) the catalog will rebuild, it will also add more data into the catalog for every destination drive you run a backup onto if there were already backups existing. dont worry, ive done this loads of times, its not a problem.

1)Run wbadmin delete catalog from a command prompt. (as amin)

2)Run Event Viewer and clear log Applications and Services\Microsoft\Windows\Backup\Operational If you don't clear the Backup Operational log the backups will still be shown.

For some reason Dashboard reported Drive C needed to be checked for errors. Checked drive to clear message but there were no errors.

Dashboard now has a message that Server Backup needs to be Setup. Make sure your Server is functioning correctly because you will need to delete the backups on your Server Backup disk. I tried not deleting the backups and they didn't show up after the first backup and the backup ran way too quickly so I didn't trust the data stored on the hard drive.

Now the only Server Backup listed is the current backup.
