Caching And Stand Alone Agents

Post by Cubert »

How to manage different agent types
There are 3 types of agents defined in Chocolatey For Automate. Caching, StandAlone and Standard agents.

Each of these types has a purpose,
  • Caching Agent - > This agent is responsible for managing the location's cache. Every client location must have one agent set as the caching agent. It is the only agent tasked with communicating with the community repositories. It will manage the cache making sure that packages are available to the standard agents.
  • Stand Alone Agent - > This agent is considered location-less and does not conform to a single location. This is commonly a Laptop or other mobile device. Use this sparingly as it can trigger a IP block from the community if multiple stand alone agents check in from the same IP address in a short period of time.
  • Standard Agent - > This is the rest of the agents in a client location. They will use caching location to get all installs and updates. You can still use the manual install from repo tool on any agent.
