Avast Business Plugin - Quick Start Guide

Post by Cubert »

This is a quick start guide for the Avast Business Plugin from Plugins4Automate.

For how to install plugins into Automate guide please visit https://www.plugins4automate.com/pages/ ... to-labtech

Quick Start Guide

After a successful plugin installation you can launch a new Automate control center console and find under the Tools menu a new menu item called Avast Antivirus. This will launch the main plugin.

There are (2) main areas to manage Avast AntiVirus, the global manager and the client manager.

Global Manager

The global manager allows you to see your entire environment in one view and provides settings to control access to Avast and the back end settings in Automate. The global manager is used to enable one or more of your clients and to set the deployment configurations for each client.

Client Manager

The client manager allows you to see only the current client's view and controls the manual install of Antivirus if automation is not selected during the client enable process.

Configuring the Global Manager for Avast.

The MSP will need to enable API access under their Avast account in the Avast Web Portal. Avast will provide you a Client_ID and Secret that will need to be placed into the plugin before you can start using the plugin. This access ties your account to the plugin so the plugin can poll stats and acquire the Antivirus software and settings needed to deploy to your environment. Upon first launch of the plugins global manager you will be directed to the settings view to input your client information.

API Access - Allows plugin to access Avast API and communicate on the MSP's behalf. This is the only required setting.

Automation Speed - This controls the speed of the Automated processes like Installs and stats collection.
Fast = every 6 minutes and Normal is once per hour on the half hour.

Web Portal Access - This enables the Online Portal button to log you directly into the Avast Web Portal to
assist in managing groups and policies.

Enabling Clients

Now you are ready to enable some clients. In the global manager select from the top right the Enable Clients button. This will open a selection window for you to select which clients you want to enable.

**Note** - During enabling of clients you will be asked if automated installs to workstations and or servers are desired. Your selection will be the settings for all clients you selected at that time. This means if you select to enable 3 clients at once and set the automation to workstations only, all 3 clients will receive the same settings. If you need to a company to have unique settings only select the one company to enable at a time and then repeat the client enable for the selection of clients you want to have the same settings for.

Global Manager - Devices

The Devices view in the global manager shows all agents, clients and locations that are enabled for Antivirus and have deployed agents or are set to auto deploy. If a client is set to manual deployments only, then agents will only appear when deployed. Only deployed or set to deploy agents will be shown in this view. You have the ability to run on one or more agents at once, the Agent scans and Uninstalls functions. On single agent selections you can View Status, Open Client Consoles and Open Agent Consoles.

The Devices view shows your agent, along with the client and location where agent is located. It shows if AV has been installed correctly and the current status and health of each agent.

Client Manager Console

For each client that has been enabled for AV, the client console will have a new (Tab). This tab will be labeled "Avast Business" and will provide the same view as the global manager but with the added control of installing AV to agents.

Client Manager - Devices

Devices view works a little differently at the client console. You will see all agents under client regardless of automatic deployments. Any agent or group of agents can be selected here and manually deploy to or removal of AV from those agents. You are also provided a View Status and Open Agent Console controls.

Plugin User Permissions

This Automate plugin deploys some basic user security at the global manager level to prevent unwanted access to global settings and client enables. Only Automate Super Admins or users with the AvastBusiness user class added to their classes will be allowed to launch the global manager. The super admin will need to add this class to each tech users they want to have global access to all clients. This setting is not needed for the client manager views.
